Here I am, back at the end of Europe, ten years after I went to Melilla. Ten years after I thought that things would change if only people knew about it.
Well, things have changed. Here in Lampedusa, you don't see migrants anymore. Everything is perfectly organised. Nobody is disturbed during their holidays. The water is crystal clear, the beaches are perfect, the restaurants are appealing. Migrants are cared for in the sealed-off hotspot, shipwrecks are taken to Sicily. It's oh so peaceful and quiet, no confrontation with unpleasant procedures.
Nothing to think about, just relax and enjoy - we deserve it, right? There are so many other problems in the world. We're not responsible for what happens on the borders. We have had our share of difficulties. This year, all the years, enough is enough.
Enjoy your stay - as long as you have the right passport!
