Samos, Greece I am having coffee with guys from the Swedish Sea Rescue Society
Since October 2015, this NGO has operated two 12-meter boats on Samos to help with search and rescue operations. Rotating teams of volunteers from Sweden work on the island in the Aegean Sea for two weeks at a time. The speedboats are equipped for extremely bad weather, better than the boats of the Greek coast guard.
I ask why these people from Sweden come to spend their vacation with nerve-wracking missions at sea. The answer is simple:
"We have saved more than 1000 people so far. We can make a difference.
