A transhistorical Quest for Equality and Democracy
Catalogue of the exhibition of the same name, June 27 – September 07,2024 at hinterland.
Inspired by The Conference of the Birds by the Persian poet Attār, the exhibition Valleys of the Simorgh embarks on a search for the fantastic Simorgh.
Based on the structure of the tale, the exhibition is organized into seven valleys:
1. Valley of the Quest (Ahmadjan & Maren Amini), 2. Valley of Love (Tanja Boukal), 3. Valley of Knowledge (Monika Huber), 4. Valley of Detachment
(Al i & Maheen Kazim), 5. Valley of Unity (Anahita Razmi), 6. Valley of Wonderment (Mohsin Shafi), and 7. Valley of Poverty and Annihilation (Farkhondeh Shahroudi).
Transhistorically, the exhibition updates the Attārian narrative with a focus on its political significance, while at the same time emphasizing the collective struggle for freedom and equality.
