On the occasion of its new permanent exhibition, the Musée d'art et d'histoire de Neuchâtel is questioning its collections and allowing them to enter into dialogue with each other through the prism of movement, a concept that is both individual and universal.

The audience will be offered a novel and interdisciplinary insight through a pluralistic question. What are the profiles and motivations of migrants? What role do wars and international trade play in the movements? What kind of goods are produced and what strategies are used to export them? What are the links between trade networks and the slave trade? What do artists seek under distant skies? What obstacles do migrants face in their everyday lives? A journey along the small and big stories that reflect the memory and richness of destinies.

The book brings together the exhibition texts written by the museum's curators. It contains a large selection of objects that impress us with their beauty, the technical mastery of their creator or their history. Placed in a global context, these objects make it possible to establish links with contemporary challenges, such as the debate on the memory of Neuchâtel's colonial past. The questioning here extends into the public space and testifies to the museum's need to reflect a changing world.
